Reconciliation: before committing to it, understand it!
Since 2021, the GECIPQ movement has enabled businesses, organizations, and political bodies to engage in economic reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.
Beyond the annual events and activities designed to foster collaboration and networking between Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesspeople, the GECIPQ aims to spark a movement that goes beyond words—one that translates into real, sustained action. The goal is to generate concrete, mutually beneficial outcomes that support the achievement of Indigenous Peoples’ socioeconomic ambitions. To learn more, visit our About the movement page.
The GECIPQ is aimed at the business community and all economic players in Quebec—meaning businesses, institutions, governments, and individuals—who wish to commit to economic reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. The movement is also aimed at Indigenous businesses, communities, and nations in Quebec that are looking to participate in economic reconciliation and play a greater role in the Quebec economy.
For the GECIPQ, an economic reconciliation commitment sets out a concrete and measurable action that a business or organization wishes to take to actively contribute to the economic inclusion of Indigenous peoples in the Quebec economy. Ideally, it is not simply a statement of intent, but rather a structured commitment that defines clear, achievable objectives that are aligned with concrete principles for implementation.
